I normally don't post politics related entries but this new issue on senator-wannabe Cynthia Villar's thoughts on 'room nurses' was just too offensive to ignore (at least on my blog).
Here's the video and transcript of the very offensive interview:
Transcript / Meme of the offensive statement credit goes to Nightingale Chronicles and IVOTE PH:
This statement is offensive on so many levels so let me dissect this with my corresponding thoughts on each part:
actually hindi naman kailangan ang nurse ay matapos nung BSN. - Are you for real? How is somebody supposed to be recognized as a nurse if she/he doesn't complete her degree in BSN? And now you're telling us that a degree in nursing is not needed to be a nurse?
Kasi ‘tong ating mga nurses, gusto lang nilang maging room nurse o sa Amerika or sa other country - Room Nurse? What the hell is that? Did you seriously think that RN stands for Room Nurse? So now can we expect to have a Room Doctor, Room Medtech, Room Midwife, etc? I can't believe that you have been educated in UP and still do not know what RN stands for! Just an FYI Mrs. Villar, RN stands for REGISTERED NURSE. These folks you belittle actually have to take the board exams just to attain that revered title!
is ano lang sila yung parang mag-aalaga. - The use of LANG in the statement is soooo degrading and offensive. How could this woman belittle the task of taking care of one's patients this way? The way she said it shows that she thinks very lowly of this profession. Well, I have news for you Mrs. Villar: no matter how simple or unglamorous some professions are, they should be respected, for as long as they are done in a dignified and HONEST manner, which is sad to say, cannot be said of YOU POLITICIANS! Let's put it this way, it would have been more acceptable to me if the statement is 'ano lang sila, mga politiko yung parang magnanakaw lang pero legal na magnanakaw.'
Hindi naman sila kailangang ganun kagaling.“ - They do not need to be good at what their chosen profession is? Isn't this statement promoting a culture of being mediocre and being substandard? I do not want a leader who does not promote excellence: I want someone who encourages people to be the best at whatever field they choose to be in. This type of politician is the reason why Pinoys are lazy and undisciplined because they are happy with inferior results. And just a thought that I want to throw out to this lady: would you tolerate mediocrity in nurses if it was your life on the line???
Another thing is that I think she could have mistaken care-givers for nurses in this scenario: and just the fact that she did shows how uniformed she is about the situation! Would you like to be led by such a person who does not know the simple difference between caregivers and RNs?
And as a closing thought to this rant, I would like to say that Cynthia Villar is definitely NOT getting my vote EVER for any public office. She is a businesswoman at heart and I do not need such a person who sees the senate seat as a potential business venture. With her businesswoman mind, I could just imagine her already computing for the ROI when she gets one of the seats, which we all know will never happen if she works HONESTLY and WITH INTEGRITY.
Mrs. Villar, magswimming ka na lang sa dagat ng basura!
